He was born in Salt Lake City on October 26, 2002 to Michelle Markay Nelson and Henry Warren McClain. He was born premature (weighed 3.2lbs), but he was feisty and tenacious. These traits continued the rest of his life. In addition to his biological parents, he leaves behind his stepfather Chris Hamel, his siblings Christian and Kammie Hamel, his uncle Chris Nelson, maternal grandparents Lynn Nelson and Tanya Chatterton, paternal grandparents Jan and Bill Morris, and his step grandparents Barb and John Hamel.
Roan was a deep thinker and an “old soul” he loved to read and loved nature. He loved to camp, hike and cared about the environment. He loved good food and was an avid photographer. Roan loved to travel and talked about studying abroad one day. His friends described him as sweet, caring, and funny. He was patient and loving with little kids. Roan attended Salt Lake Arts Academy, Highland High School, and Salt Lake Performing Arts; he made many friends and will be greatly missed by everyone that knew him. Roan touched many people’s lives in his short time on earth; many of us are better people for knowing him.
