Raymond Ross

Raymond Henry Ross (93), of West Valley City, Utah, returned home peacefully Monday, September 19, 2016. Born September 4, 1923, to Charles Ludwig Ross and Sarah Jane Bellamy. Ray's greatest legacy to his family was his love of music. From polkas on the accordion to belting out show tunes while accompanying himself on the piano, Ray shared his talents with everyone he came in contact with. Some of his most cherished memories were when he had been able to sing with his children. He helped organize and performed in many church productions, barbershop quartets and National Veterans Art Festivals. He was known to take his piano camping or on a family vacation. His granddaughter, Trisha Perkins, wrote, "His eyes so blue. His hands so strong. His heart so full . . . His strength is so unbelievable. His fingers stroked the the keys on his piano playing, "I Did It My Way."

As a master electrician and general contractor, in California and in Utah, Ray enjoyed building and working with his hands. No one is sure if he ever really retired. His whole life, from shoveling out a basement by hand as a child to growing a large garden in his 90's, Ray was always up to something. He taught his children how to work hard and to never quit. He could outwork men half his age. If he put his mind to it, he could do it. Up until his last six weeks of life, Ray had been out everyday with his wife, Allee, gardening, irrigating, mowing and cultivating a beautiful yard.

Ray proudly served in the Army during WWII and was a member of the LDS church. Ray is survived by his wife, Allee Poulsen Ross. His surviving children and stepchildren: Raymond M. Ross (Patty), Mary Lynn Ross, Karl B. Ross (Diane), Laura Kay Johansen (Bruce), Jeffrey E. Ross, Linda Durrant (Tim), Doug Monson (Lisa), Dean Monson (Leslee), and Elaine Monson. He also has a multitude of grandchildren, great grandchildren and even great, great grandchildren. Preceded in death by his son Steven O.
