Nelda W. Kistler, formerly of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2016 at Platinum Care in Saint George, Utah. She has resided in the Saint George area since April, 2014, to be closer to her niece, Joyce and Bob Fetter.
Nelda was born on May 9, 1922 in Inverury, now Central Valley, Utah to Frands and Lessie Nunley Olsen. She attended school in Inverury and also Monroe, Utah where she graduated from South Sevier High School and Seminary. Nelda was a member of the LDS Church. She married William C. Kistler, in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 25, 1951. Their only child, a son, was born on June 26, 1958 and passed away shortly after birth.
She worked in Richfield for 2 years after she graduated, then in Sept. 1941 she left Central and moved to Salt Lake City. Nelda started working at the National Dollar Store, then later she changed occupations and was employed by the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad until the spring of 1946. She was employed by F. W. Woolworth Company, in sales then promoted to Personnel Manager.
She graduated from Comptometer School in 1977, in Electronic Display Calculators and Office Machines from Granite Community Education. She worked in and around the Salt Lake City Area. Nelda was the bookkeeper for Kistler’s American Oil Services, and then Kistler’s Texaco, on 2700 South State Street, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Nelda belonged to the American Business Women’s Association. She was the Utahna Chapter’s President in 1978, 1984, and 1988. She served on the Chapter’s Executive Board in all capacities and held nearly all chairmanships as well as worked on different committees. She was honored in 1986 for 25 years of active membership in ABWA.
Nelda enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, as well as to Hawaii, Acapulco, and Mexico. Her sister, Nedra Bates, accompanied her on several trips.
She was preceded in death by her husband, infant son, her parents; brothers; Odell Olsen, Farrell Olsen, sisters; Beverly Olsen and Nedra Bates, brother-in-law; Henry J. Bates, and Sister-in-law; Vivian Olsen.
Nelda is survived by a sister-in-law, Gwena Olsen, of Monroe. Her nieces, Joyce (Bob) Fetter, Saint George, Judie Curtis, Marysvale, Jeanene (Carl) Julander, Richfield, Mavis (Jon) Torgerson, Panguitch, and Nancy Selack, Sandy. Two nephews, Danny Olsen, Park City, and Mike Olsen, Orem, all of Utah. Also their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 1:00 PM prior to the Graveside Services at the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park and Mortuary, on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at 2:00 PM. Nelda will be laid to rest next to her husband and infant son, at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park at 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah.
