Natalie was born March 12, 1927 to Carl Bernson (Bernsten) and Eva Natalie Stromness in Salt Lake City, Utah. Natalie grew up in Utah graduating from East High and later from the University of Utah. After World WarII she married Bernell (Bernie) M. Calderwood on June 23, 1948 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She had known dad for years because of her friendship with his sister LaRae (Calderwood) McEwan and upon dads return he could not resist marrying his “Pretty little blue eyed girl”. Their lives were blessed with three children, Martin, Meredith and Darrin who all grew up in the Holliday area. She moved to West Jordan, Utah in the early 80’s. Her husband, whom she supported and cherished for 55 years passed away November 2, 2003.
Mom was always a teacher. She taught her children many things and influenced them in ways that cannot be listed. Her love of art and music and many other wondrous and beautiful things live in all of our hearts and Mom’s legacy continues as they are passed on to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She taught elementary school and thus influenced hundreds of children some of whom, over the years have thanked her in person many years later.
Natalie is survived by her son Martin (Sandy) Calderwood, daughter Meredith (Craig) Terry and son Darrin (Linda) Calderwood, 11 grandchildren and 8.5 great-grandchildren, her friend and sister-in-law LaRae McEwan, sister-in-law Tammy Bernson and many cousins, nieces and nephews and their families. She was preceded in death by her husband Bernie (Captain KC/Admiral Bernie), father Carl and mother Eva Bernson, brothers Donald and Eugene, Grandson Bryan Terry and many aunts, uncles and family whom she loved and cherished throughout her long and productive life.
