A Joyful Reunion is taking place! Our sweet Mother, Sister, Grandma, Aunt and Friend MILDRED ETHEL FIELDING PETERSON stepped from her home into Heaven, May 5, 2017. She left our embrace and went into the welcoming arms of her husband and family.
She truly shone as a daughter of light! Generations have been influenced by her loving nature, her compassion, generosity, kindness, service, example and her positive outlook.
For the past 14 months, she has been bedridden. During this time, she never complained. She greeted each person with a smile and remained, radiant, dignified and brave.
Mildred was born December 4, 1926 in Shelley, Idaho to Roy and Ethel Fielding. She was the 2nd oldest of 13 children. She loved her family and was the big sister to whom they could depend on for love and support. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings: Reva, Delwin, Jay, Steven and Mark.
She married her sweetheart, Daryl Eugene Peterson for time and all eternity on August 3, 1948 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They loved their "beauty"-ful life, spending time together, dancing, singing, hiking, camping and working in their garden. Daryl, preceded Mildred in death, nearly a year ago. They had a deep love for their family, and left a posterity of 120. Including 27 grandchildren and 63 great-grandchildren. They are survived by their four daughters - Carol Dawes (David), Lorna Collette-Marti (Craig), Sandy Wertz (Ed), and Barbara Thomas (Brian).
Mildred graduated from Utah State University in Home Economics and Family Life. For over 30 years she taught the fine art of homemaking to literally hundreds of students who loved and admired her. She was known all over the valley for her incredible cooking and baking. Her delicious homemade candies won her several blue ribbons and a silver dish at the State Fair. Mildred would stay up late sewing prom dresses, matching outfits and nightgowns but was up at the crack of dawn to get to work, she made it all look easy and was always positive and fun to be with.
She loved the Lord and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in both teaching and leadership roles in both Relief Society and Young Women's.
Mildred loved motherhood, laughing and spending time with her four daughters. As a mother and grandmother she was fun, patient, a good listener and forgiving. "Love at Home" was not only her motto, it was the essence of her life. Her love was unconditional, abundant, freely given and exemplified by her acts of daily service. She has left us an amazing heritage, and a legacy of service, faith and devotion to the Lord and Family. She lived an abundant, joyful life!
We so appreciate each caregiver and all of your love and devotion to her. Thank-you so much, Fale, Sione, Earlene, Lori, Emberly, and Ueni.
Her funeral will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the LDS Millstream Ward, 3400 So. 1100 E., Salt Lake City at 12:00 noon. Viewings will be held at the church on Monday, May 8, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 PM and Tuesday from 10:30 – 11:30 am prior to services. In lieu of flowers you may send a donation to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Humanitarian Fund.
