Our kind, caring and strong Mother, Grandmother and friend passed away Tuesday, March 29, 2022, at the age of 78.
She was born August 7, 1943 to Frank and Julia Meyer Ammon at home in Newport Nebraska. She was the second daughter of a ranching family. Ranching was a hard life but it taught a wonderful work ethic and sense of responsibility. Following graduation from Rock County High school, she attended the University of Nebraska and graduated from the medical college in Omaha, Nebraska with a degree in Medical Technology.
In 1964 she married her high school sweetheart, Duane Garwood. To this union three children were born, Kimberly (John) Matson, Douglass Garwood and Kristen Skidmore.
She continued to be active in her profession in various positions eventually managing several laboratories and a Quality and Compliance expert. She was a respected consultant for laboratories helping them comply with Federal CLIA regulations. She served on the MLT board at SLCC College for several years.
Her faith was central to her life and she was an active member of her local church youth group eventually serving on the NE state youth council. She was a devoted member of Christ United Methodist Church for over 50 Years serving in several positions. She traveled with Wesley Bell Ringers as a chaperone for a summer, she also devoted many years to the Stephen ministry as a way to serve her fellow parishioners.
She was an avid reader and loved to travel throughout world. She was well organized in space and time!
She is survived by her spouse Duane, 3 siblings, Leila Beaver, Loren (Karen) Ammon and Neil (Mary) Ammon and her 3 children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and infant son.
