Marlene Ruth Robinson peacefully passed away on December 10, 2021, with her daughter Julie Hessheimer by her side. She was born June 6, 1935, in Salt Lake City to Gilbert and Martha Johnson. She married Richard E. Neilson, whom she later divorced.
Marlene was a tenacious unstoppable woman ahead of her time. When she made up her mind to do something, nothing could stop her, whether it was raising children, sewing, oil painting or raising animals. She built and designed sets for school and church plays and made elaborate costumes for horse shows and Halloween. Whatever project she was associated with was done to perfection.
She had a great love for her family and was always willing to go the extra mile for them. Marlene spent her life educating herself. She returned to high school to get her high school diploma in her 50s, and read numerous self-help books, insisting that everyone in the family would benefit from her book choices. Most of her family members are still in possession of books they received from her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Vern and daughter Nancy Zander. She is survived by her children Susan (Gary) Newbold, Steve Neilson and Julie (Randy) Hessheimer, her brother Michael George Emack and his family, nine grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She researched and explored many religions, concluding that Jesus Christ is her Lord and Savior. She loved her family beyond measure and hopes each of you, keep that love in your heart.
A funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, with a viewing from 1:00-1:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers please donate to the American Red Cross in memory of Nancy Zander.
Services will be streamed for those unable to attend.
