Margaret Helen Lindbeck Wallace, 92, passed away February 19, 2015 after a valiant fight with cancer. Born January 28, 1923 to Frederick and Violet Mildred Lawson Lindbeck in Knightsville, Utah which is now a ghost town. At the age of 18, her parents died leaving the Margaret the sole responsibility of raising her younger siblings Thelma and Fred. Margaret married Joseph H. Wallace, January 5, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple. They had 63 years of marriage before Joe’s death in 2002.
Margaret worked on one of the first computers the state of Utah had for the Highway Patrol. It filled one third of the first floor of the state capital building. Later she taught English and history in Samoa. She worked as a manager for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints distribution center at the Cottonwood Mall. Margaret was an avid reader and loved to quilt and crochet.
Margaret served in many position in the Church including Primary President, Relief Society President, young Women’s teacher, Scouting and many more. She and Joe were privileged to serve two building missions for the Church of Jesus Christ in England and Samoa with their children.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister Thelma, brother-in-law Bud Talmadge, brother Fred Lindbeck and grandson E. Scott Wallace. She is survived and will be truly missed by her children Margaret A. Wallace, J. Edward Wallace (Judy), Roslyn Mackay (Jeffrey) and Bert Wallace (Colleen); 7 grandchildren & spouses and 11 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and sister-in-law Rosemary Lindbeck.
Graveside Services will be held Monday, February 23, 2015 at Wasatch Lawns Memorial Mortuary, 3401 Highland Dr. Salt Lake City, UT 84106 at 1 pm with a viewing at noon. A viewing will be held Sunday, February 22, 2015 at 5-7 pm same location.
