LaVon Cashin Howell, 86, passed away March 27, 2017, in Bountiful Utah, after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was born December 13, 1930 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Russell and Helen Nunn Cashin. Married Carrol L.Howell in the Salt Lake Temple October 1, 1956.
She learned the value of hard work at an early age, taking care of up to 150 chickens at any given time, along with the usual yard work and housework that was required. She enjoyed school, with a particular interest in music and art, and kept busy with a myriad of jobs after school. She acquired a “green thumb” working for Engh Floral, and that passion never grew old. Her garden was a continual source of joy, and her knowledge on the topic was something she often shared with others. We will miss the beautiful view of mom’s garden from the kitchen window.
She is survived by siblings; Russell Cashin Jr. and Elaine Donahue; children Diane (Tom) Hodnett, David (Kelly) Howell, Laura (Phillip) Sargent, Lorin (Aurora) Howell, Blake (Stephanie) Howell; 21 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters, Jeanne and Carol.
A viewing will be held Saturday, April 1, 2017, from 11:00-12:00 noon, at Wasatch Lawn 3401 Highland Dr. Salt Lake City, Utah, after which a short graveside service will take place. Interment at Wasatch Lawn “Garden of the Lilies” Mausoleum.
