Born on April 24, 1936, to Clarence Watson Silver and Mamie Richards Silver in Salt Lake City Utah he was the youngest of six children. Larry attended East High school where he participated in choir and then went on to sing with the student opera company at The University of Utah, earning a degree in Business and continuing the legacy of his family’s company: C.W. Silver Electric, in the lighting division. He also served an LDS mission to Southern California. On August 8, 1962, he married Mary Ellen Fife of New Orleans, Louisiana in the Logan Temple. They were married for almost 60 years, raising three children together. Dad even helped build their lifelong home! Scouting, road trips, boating, snowmobiling, family activities and vacations were always an important part of life in the Silver household.
Larry had a larger-than-life personality and was very generous with those in need of help. Many Sunday dinners and holidays were shared with newfound friends that were immigrants and exchange students. Dad loved riding his Honda Goldwing and was known to share a cold pop with passing bikers on hot days. He also loved cars and would lend a hand to people with restorations and repairs whenever he could help.
As time passed, four wonderful grandchildren arrived and Grampa loved taking them river rafting and horseback riding near the family cabin in Island Park, Idaho as well as sharing the wonders of Yellowstone with all of us. He always enjoyed National Parks and the outdoors. He was adventurous and traveled as much as he could, going to the Panama Canal just a few years ago.
Preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Clarence “Bud” Silver, Marjorie Silver Smith, Lynn R. Silver, and Roy R Silver.
Larry is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Fife Silver; sister Bonnie Silver Haymond; his three children, Larry “Scott” Silver, Shannon (Troy) Mabey, and Jodee Kingsley; four grandchildren Megan (Andy) Larsen, Mckayla Mabey (Wayne Kotsay), Bryce Mabey, Camden Kingsley Siska and his new great grandson, Xander Kotsay.
