Katie left us unexpectedly on February 24, 2017 leaving all those who knew and loved her shocked and heartbroken. Katie was born on June 3, 1949 in Anna, Illinois to William and Gloria Groves, both deceased.
Katie was a fun-loving, family first, mother and wife and she always looked forward to spending time with family and friends at any opportunity. She loved her dogs, Poncho & Rickie (both deceased) and her special guy, Bert, the "other man of the house". Mom also loved watching sports, hockey, NASCAR, NFL, so long as it was a New York team, it was "her" team. An avid reader, Katie was always reading something and waiting for the next Steven King novel.
Mom and Milt loved to travel and they made many trips with her sister Suzie and brother-in-law, Bill DePasquale. Those infamous trips where they inevitably got lost in a new city, but still had the best of times together. Katie was able to travel to many locations such as Las Vegas, New York, Hawaii and Graceland in Memphis just to name a few.
Katie had to look her best at all times as those who knew her were well aware. When the house caught fire and Milt was yelling for her to come on and get out, mom was in the bathroom doing her make-up before exiting the house. An absolute "Katie" thing to do without a doubt.
Katie looked forward to family gatherings and spending time with her nephews (the boys) and their growing families. Christmas Eve at the home of William, Sandra, Jake, Madeline and Maceo, was continually a highlight for her as she was able to spend time with them as well as Bob, Hanna, Lou and Lindsie and other family and friends. Family meant everything to mom.
Katie also had a diverse love of music listening to everything from Elvis to Metallica, who she saw three different times with her "baby boy" Tony. Mom was excited to "take her turn" going to Bon Jovi with Michelle and she loved every minute she was able to spend with family regardless of the activity. She was so fun and full of excitement it was contagious. Katie's love of music gave her the opportunity to see such bands as the Rolling Stones, Neil Diamond, Great White and many others. When she and Milt went to see Wayne Newton, she was over the moon when he walked down to give her a kiss. Milt however, was not so impressed with anyone getting too close to his lady, even Wayne Newton.
Katie adored her grandchildren. Audrey, Ashley, Cami, Cordell, Amanda, Abbie , Jeren and her first great-grand child Raiden, courtesy of Audrey.
Katie is survived by her adoring husband Milton, her children, Michelle Beddoes Yeates (Steve), Tony Beddoes, Jeni Mattinson, Cory Flash (Jera). Preceded in death by her parents, sister Suzanne and brother-in-law Bill DePasquale, and other siblings.
A viewing will be held at Wasatch Lawn, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, Utah on Tuesday, February 28, 2017 from 6-8 pm and a service on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at 1 pm.
