Julie Olsen so loved spring that she left it for us to remember her by, after passing away unexpectedly on Monday, May 1, 2017. Any number of seasons, though, could stand as memorial to her, so invested was she in making every month of the year a time of love and gathering for her family. Julie was a strong and capable net, cast wide to gather people together in love, memory-building, and connection. Even as a teenager, her family called her their “social director.” She adored traveling, and it took her to such places as Bali and the United Kingdom; she often traveled with family as well, visiting National Parks or observing unusual celestial events like solar and lunar eclipses.
A member of the LDS Church, she served her entire life, mostly among the children in primary, which she loved. Julie was active in her community, volunteering time with the yearly Holladay Messiah event, her family cabin’s association, condominium association, and many more. She was as loyal a friend as she was an employee, and she spoke with animation of her work at the Utah Department of Health. A woman who loved and cared deeply about her family, friends, and coworkers, she was dearly loved in return, and the surprise and hollow of her departure will, truly, never leave those who had the great fortune to know her.
She was born February 19, 1959, in Nephi, Utah, to Lee J and Genevieve Boyer Olsen, the baby of six children. She attended Olympus High School and attained BS and MBA degrees from Brigham Young University. She is survived by her mother, Genevieve Boyer Olsen; sister, Peggy (Wayne) Fereday, and sister-in-law, June; brothers, Charles F (Leslie), John R (Barbara), and Brent Olsen. Her nieces, nephews, and their children were her own kids, and Emily (Chad), Kali, Chris, Laura (Jace), Bryan (Whitney), Matt (Megan), Robert (Elise), and Dan (Alyssa), who lovingly named her “Aunt Juju,” along with their children, Hayden, Tyson, JR, Clara, Dean, Zoey, Luke, Evie Kate, Cooper, and Blakelee “Bob,” who have always had her actively involved in their lives. There is surely a joyful reunion happening now with her father, Lee, and her brother, Steven, who preceded her in death. The depth and volume with which you’ll be missed cannot be measured: ‘til we meet again, Julie, we will be loving and missing you.
