Together Again
Jerry Wright Blomquist, 84, passed away peacefully Sunday March 13, 2011,
at his home surrounded by his family. He was the son of Vern A. and
Margaret Blomquist. He was born July 24, 1926 in Richfield, Utah and grew
up in Richfield and Davis County. He graduated from Davis High School where
he excelled in athletics. Everywhere he went, he made friends.
He was an Army Veteran of World War II. During the war he served with the
205 AW Battalion on Leyte, Mindaro, Manila and Subic Bay. He distinguised
himself as a leader of men. On returning home from the war he used the GI
bill to acquire training as an auto mechanic. He began his mechanic career
at Petty Ford in Salt Lake City, then moved to Okland Construction where he
remained as a faithful employee for 35 years. Jerry could fix anything and
loved to "soup up" cars. His favorite music was the deep-throated rumble of
a fine-tuned V-8. He was always available to the neighbors who needed a little repair.
There were special times deer hunting with his sons near Coalville and revisiting his old haunts around Fish Lake.
Jerry married his sweetheart Bonnie Jean McNeil on June 27, 1949. He was a
loving husband of 58 years. Together Bonnie and Jerry provided a safe and
loving home for their three children. Jerry enjoyed his children,
grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family cabin at Bear Lake
brought him great pleasure as a place to be with his family. He loved
watching his grandchildren explore and play on the shores of the lake.
Jerry always supported his children and grandchildren in their sports
participation and could always be heard from the stands cheering them on.
He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, honesty, integrity and love.
Jerry is survived by his three children: Gerry Blomquist (Nicole), Phoenix,
Arizona; David Blomquist (Pam), Morgan, Utah; and Kathy Whyte (Bob), Murray,
Utah; 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Claude, Paul, Betty, Marjorie, and Gwen.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bonnie Blomquist.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Steve Bateman, CEO, St.
Marks Hospital, and to Franki Loftus for her tender nursing care. Funeral
services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary; viewing Friday March 18, 2011
6:00pm-8:00pm; Services Saturday March 19, 2011 2:00 pm with a viewing one hour prior to services. Location : 3401 Highland Dr. Salt Lake City Utah.
