Jay was born in SLC, Feb. 3, 1933 to Marie J. Christensen and Maurice L. Broadwater. He had many fond memories of being the baby of the family and spending time with his 5 siblings. He joined the AF and was proud to serve as a Radio Electrician. He spent most of his life in the Salt Lake Valley, where he met the love of his life, Mary Lou Karren. They were married June 5, 1958. He loved being a dad and a great provider for his family. He was blessed to have 3 children.
He was a jack of all trades, working as a police officer, truck driver, car salesman at LH Strongs, stockbroker and business owner of Casino Parties of Utah. He loved having something to do & somewhere to go every morning.
The last several years Jay loved living in St. George, even though, those in Mesquite may have thought of him as a resident. He had many friends at the Casa Blanca, Virgin River and Eureka. He loved Black Jack and knew all the odds. He golfed as long as he could. Life was fun, golf was serious! He was adventuresome, loved vacationing, fishing & being outdoors.
Jay could brighten anyone’s day. He would wiggle his fingers at the little children in the stores till they grinned. He had a brilliant, witty and mischievous sense of humor and loved making people gasp or smile, rather he knew them or not. His daily goal was to make someone laugh. His grandkids thought it was wonderful that the fridge vegetable drawer was filled, not with vegetables, but with candy!
Jay is survived by his 2 daughters, Karri Lou Beckett (David) & Julie Turpin, 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, Sister-in-law, Mary Lou Standing Broadwater, many nieces and nephews and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his 2 brothers, 3 sisters, his loving wife, Mary Lou, his son, Ronald Jay & 1 granddaughter Sara.
We would like to give a special thanks to Dr. Fernando Thadepalli and his staff for the incredible care our dad received. Dr. Thadepalli not only treated the body but he lifted his spirits also.
DAD, WE LOVE YOU MORE!
