George John Zambos

1928-2015

George John Zambos fell asleep peacefully in the hands of the Lord on July 15, 2015. He was born December 11, 1928, to John Zambos and Urania Melonas in Chicago, Illinois. He married Tula Pappas on December 7, 1952, at Holy Trinity Cathedral and together they had three children whom he was very proud of.

George will always be remembered as a dedicated and hardworking man who began working at the age of six selling popcorn and peanuts at Wrigley Field for the Chicago Bears and Cub games and continued working and volunteering until he was almost 85 years old. His service to family, church, community and country were paramount in his life. He honorably served in the US Navy for six years during the Korean Conflict. He was a Masonic Mason, Scottish Rite, York Rite and Shriner for over 57years. What went unseen were numerous acts of charity, generosity and service to many individuals and families, especially children in which is sponsored almost 2,000 into the Shriner’s Hospital for Children.

His children John, Elaine and Angelo (Christy) Zambos, grandchildren Jason, James (Jennifer) and Angie (Zack) and three great-grandchildren survive George. He is also survived by his special friend Margie Zimmerli, brother Steve Zambos and brother-in-law Terry Vosnos. Preceded in death by his wife Tula, parents and brothers Nick and Ted.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, July 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 279 South 300 West, Salt Lake City. A viewing will also be held at the same location, on Friday, July 17, between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. with Trisagion Service at 7:00 p.m. Interment at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
