On June 14, 2022 without warning, a massive heart attack took our husband, father, and grandfather from his favorite summertime pleasure - one-on-one individual weeks with Grandpa filled with biking, fishing, attempted tennis, Monopoly and walks.
He also enjoyed monthly model-car club get-togethers; if you went to a car show with him, you could plan on spending several hours examining every detail.
Off and on during his life, he helped many young men develop life-long skills by donating his time to the scouting program.
He was born January 28, 1947 in Salt Lake City to Ross Hansen Wright and Lillian Margaret Dudley, and married Linda Anne Duke July 18, 1974 in the Provo Utah Temple.
At the age of 4 his mother had him take piano lessons, which he did not like, and at the age of eight he declared he was done with piano. He took up guitar in his freshman year of high school.
He started high school at Highland, but because his family moved he graduated from Skyline in 1965.
He went to what is known today as Southern Utah University in Cedar City after completing a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in England (Central British Mission). He graduated in 1978 from the University of Utah in Business.
Gary served his country in the Army Reserves 449th QM Co (Petrl Sup) (Ty B).
He started his working career building camper shells. We're not sure how that worked as he was always quick to report that the only D he got in school was in a woodworking class. He then went to work for EIMAC, now Varian, for almost 30 years. Gary retired from the University of Utah Hospital.
He is preceded in death by both parents. Survived by his wife Linda, sons Jason (Heather) and Kevin. 4 grandsons Shaun, Cullen, Ryan and Declan. Granddaughter Scarlett and soon-to-be Granddaughter Ivy.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Troop 231 Crossroads of West Council.
