I have such fond memories of your mother from all of my visits to Utah. From the time I was a little girl, and into adulthood. Florence truly was an angle from above.  Such a kind a loving spirit. She always had a way of making a person feel so special and cared for. She is in heaven now, where she is dancing and baking with the angels. My heart felt sympathy for you and your families.

Dear Halliday Family - I made an entry on July 14, 2014 about your great Mom. Included in I mentioned my son, Morgan, whom she tended and how she was so great to our family. I neglected to sign our names but want you all to know that we were thinking of you. Just this morning as I was driving to work and drove by her home, it hit me that I always felt like her home belonged in a fairy tale story. I have always admired her home and her. My heart is sad with the passing of Floie.  She was such an amazing woman, so kind and thoughtful.  She loved my son, Nick, as if he were her own.  To this day he still talks about "when he was little and "got to go" to Floie's house.  To us, she was not a babysitter, but truly a member of our family.  Once Nick was old enough to go to school, Floie still made it a point to come to birthday parties and soccer & baseball games.  We have such fond memories of Floie, our lives are better for having her in them.  Peace be with you.

Flo lived a long and full life, but by her own rules.  She didn't crave a competitive sport or hobby or career path.  Instead she woke up every morning and served those she loved.  Whether it was tending children so their parents could work,  baking something delicious and delivering it to the firefighters, a neighbor or someone in her family, or calling the mayor's office to share her opinion of some government process.  I believe this passage from Ralf Emerson says it all.

Dear Halliday family, we were sorry to hear about Flo's illness and passing. We remember the cake she made for our wedding almost 30 years ago. It was beautiful, and the care she put into making it helped make our day extra special. Whenever we would see her at family functions at Susi's house, she was always kind and friendly. We pray that your many happy memories of your mother bring you comfort and peace.

Dear Halliday Family - I am so sorry to see that your Mom has passed away. She was a wonderful and talented lady. She was always so kind to me and my family and to my parents. We were so lucky to have her watch our son, Morgan. She was the best. He loved when she would make roses out of frosting on their fingers and her cinnamon rolls. When my father passed away, she was so kind to Morgan and so compassionate because she knew how he loved his Grandpa and she would always tell him great things about his Grandpa and Grandma. Such a sweetheart she was. I am so sorry she had to suffer. She influenced so many children's lives with her love and she taught them so much. I always admired how she stayed looking so young and was always so fashionable. I pray that you as a family will have peace and comfort and that the wonderful memories of her will always bring joy to your lives.

I worked with Flo at Auerbach's many years ago.  We were close friends and I attended her wedding.  She was a lovely person.  We laughed a lot and shared our lives in those good old days.  I will never forget her and the fun we elevator girls had as we got to dress alike in lovely fashions.  It was so special. Cathy Scott Joyce.

Florence was our beautiful cousin, always full of grace, kindness and smiles.  I remember going to her house as a little girl, and feeling open mouthed wonder at how beautiful it was.  From the pictures here, I see it still is. Thankyou so much for posting them. She was a beautiful person,  and my Dad always spoke of their time growing up together with such love. To Flo's family and loved ones... I am so sorry for the loss.  Flo watched my two children (Erin and Keevan) in their early childhood years, until we moved to Nebraska in 1998. She was their Utah grandmother and we all loved her dearly. We are so happy that she was in our lives, and feel blessed that she was such a special person to our children. She is truly with the angels now.  Bless her.

Floie was my favorite! She watched me as a young girl. I will never forget my name in frosting going up my arm or Christmas time in her home. She was a dear woman to me. I have a special place in my heart for Floie!

Debbie and Family, I am so sorry for the passing of your mother. I was lucky enough to meet her and was always in awe of her sense of style and her big heart always so kind and welcoming to her home. My thoughts and condolences are with you. What a beautiful family she has.

We will always remember her sweet smile,her stories and her warm heart.  There never was nor ever will be anyone like Flo.  She influenced all of our lives in some way or another, just by knowing her. She made the cake for our 35th anniversary.  It was a beautiful, unique cake and to this day, the best tasting cake ever.  It was a surprise and very appreciated. Nobody could ever duplicate it. We will always remember her.  May your memories bring you comfort.

To us, Floie was a dear member of our family. She cared for our son Matthew, in her home until he was old enough to go to school full-time and many times after that. As first-time parents we looked to her for advice, support and a caring environment for our son & that was always met with such understanding, love, and of course beautiful baked goodies. Her gentle and loving but firm ways, helped to mold Matthew into the wonderful 15 year old he is today. Even though Matthew got older and didn't see Floie on a daily basis anymore, she would still make a point to come to the important performances and events in his life, as recent as last year.  We loved running into her while she was out shopping; it would brighten our entire day.
Floie, we will miss you so much, we loved you dearly and we are truly feeling a loss without you. Adieu.

Nick and I extend our deepest sympathies to all of the Halliday Family. We know how close you are. She was so kind and gentle.  Flo was influential in our early lives as new parents. She cared for our first child, Colin, 28 years ago. I always admired her beautiful demitasse cups that she kept on her coffee table in full view and reach of all of the toddlers in her care. She assured me that they were safe. "I just ask the children not to touch the cups. And they don't."

Aunt Florence was an elegant and beautiful lady!  I was lucky and fortunate to have received one of her creative and artistic gifts at my wedding, a golden book with my announcement which still adorns a place in my hutch.  A flood of memories come back of family gatherings, some at her home with much laughter and playing around.  Debbie, Tom, Rick, Susi, Dana, and Mike, I am so sorry for your loss of your mother.  How I would like to be at the family gathering this Monday, but my daughter is in the hospital tonight giving birth to her second child while I am tending Halli, my two year old granddaughter for a couple of days. Grandma Flo, God looked out in his heaven's and saw some brownies needed to be made, he looked down on his earth and saw you starting to fade. He knew you were suffering and new were in pain, he also knew in heaven you would never hurt again!  He closed your tired eyes and whispered peace be thine. So sad I can't come to her funeral.  Calvin Loved her so much and learned a great deal being in her home.  She gave him a love of coloring, drawing, and painting.

I am so sad to hear of Florence's passing. She was always so amazingly sweet and kind to me and my family. 
I will cherish the memories of traveling with her to Brazil, Mexico, and Dominican Republic.

Floie has been a big part of our lives for the past 10 years.  I first met her when my son Andrew was 2 and she watched him and raised him and loved him until he started school.  In the last 2 years she has cared for my daughter, Chelsea, until she got the news and couldn't take care of her anymore, even though she kept thinking she would get better eventually.  I am so saddened by this loss.  So many things she has taught my children, that I take credit for.  The french language, manners, drawing and painting.  We will miss her amazing baked goods and treats.  She never missed giving a gift for every holiday.  I haven't been able to tell Chelsea that Floie has passed away.  I don't know if she would understand.  She is constantly asking to go to her house, and misses her so. I am so grateful that my children and I had the chance to know such a beautiful, caring soul. My love and condolences to all of her family.  Thank you for sharing your mom with me.

Grandma Flo lived as though she was in her twenties her whole life. She was incredibly talented and shared her beautiful gifts with everyone around her. She had a special place in her heart for everyone especially children. My grandma has always been a second mom to me and my most dearest best friend. We talked or visited everyday sometimes more than once. We could talk about anything and we could laugh about the silliest things. She never gave up on me and the words that I will miss most are "I'm so proud of you" and "I Love you". The way she said it was meaningful and filled with real unconditional love. I am so thankful to have been so close to her especially during the past two years. We had a special bond that continues to be strong. I am heartbroken but glad that she isn't suffering anymore. She will always be in my heart and one day we will meet again.

Necessity is the mother of invention 

Floie or Snitzy as her grandpa Pia called her, was the mother of creating something out of nothing, from a card board box into a night stand , flower sacks into curtains, eggs whites into swans, frosting into roses, dogs bones into soup, newspaper into angles, marshmallows into castles, fabric swatches into quilts, popcorn into tinsel, leftover rice into pudding,. 

What many others may view as trash,  Floie learned at a young age from her mother Ruth that trash could be treasure everything was useful, both grandpa Joe and grandma Ruth proved that to be true. Money was tight when Floie and Tom were first married, but you would never have known that with Floies creativity  and ability to make something out of nothing, as kids we though we were rich; we were, rich with love! 

Fantasy was floies reality, making everyday a magical story for her 6 children and the children she took care of during the day.

As kids Floie made our home into the North Pole, she worked like a dozen elves making sure that everyone knotty or nice did not go without, she made, cookies, cakes, breads, all wrapped with Christmas cheer, that giving spirit did not stop at Christmas as it lasted through out the year. 

Endless talent, pure creativity wrapped into a never stopping hard working mother who actually lived the dream she had dreamed about as a child. 

Floie was a mother who was always on call never stopping until she took her very last breath. It will be very difficult not to be able to pick up the phone and call her, she was always available day or night and somehow even from as far away as Hong Kong  just speaking to her made things better. 

Rest in peace our dear mother, all your cakes have been made and delivered, nothing to worry about now, we all love you and will miss you dearly!

Flo was one of the most loving and caring people I have ever met. I am so glad I got to have to her in my life. I am sincerely sorry for the loss of an amazing woman. She will be greatly missed and someone that has touched so many lives! My heart goes out to the family during this time! I love you Debbie,Madds, and Tiff!!
