Ed was born January 15, 1941 in Provo, Utah. His parents were A.C. “Bill,” Collins and Mildred Elliott. Ed graduated from Provo High School in 1959 where he was a record setting basketball player. He also attended the University of Utah. He married the love of his life Mary “Kaye” Cross after dating her for just ten days! They were married at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada on October 4, 1963 and have been together every day for 53 years! Ed started working at age eleven. He shined shoes in a pool hall in Provo, Utah. In pursuit of a better life he went to work at Claire’s Café. His basketball skills earned him a college scholarship. His fondness for nice things led him to the business of car sales. Ed started working at P.E. Ashton, and moved around to several local dealerships. He spent most of his career at Crown Toyota and Academy Honda. Ed’s hard working nature took him from salesman to general manager/part owner of the businesses. Ed was an inspiration to the people he worked with. He was always quick to help out someone in need and encouraged his staff to be their best. After a short retirement, Ed returned to Christensen Auto as the used car sales manager.
“Poppy” as his family called him was loved and adored by everyone who knew him.
He always had a positive attitude, despite the physical aliments he had to endure. “There are no bad days, some days are just better than others,” Poppy would say.
He loved spending time working in his yard, going on walks, reading, doing latch hook rugs, hanging out with his family, cat, Cleo and beloved wife.
Ed is survived by his dear wife and best friend Kaye, his son Tony (Lynay,) daughters, Candace (LeAnn) and Gia (Paul) Maritsas, six grandchildren, Nicolas, Xenia, Isaac, Dimitrius, Elliana and Jesse, sister Kathy (Jim) Gadd and sisters-in-law Sandra Cross Lyon and Mary Alice Collins. Preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Mildred, and his two brothers, Bob and Stan Collins.
