“Surprise Grandma”
January 2, 1927 - September 3, 2018
On this beautiful day I leave my earthly home to join my beloved husband William Knowlton West and parents Gordon and Virginia Young, in my heavenly residence.
With my siblings, Beverly Zabriskie (Bob - deceased); Gordon Young (Bette Jean); and Kathy Bates (Ed), we were raised in a home of faith, love, joy and music.
My family calls me ‘Surprise Grandma.’ When they visit, the kids choose a prize from the surprise box.
My life surprise box has so many treasures. Among them my ancestors, Brigham Young; Wilford Woodruff; Orson Spencer; Joseph J. Daynes, and their sweet wives.
Married Don Cook in 1947 divorced - later divorced. Two sweet treasured daughters, Ginny Chidester (Kelly); and Jackie Tolman (Tom).
Married William Knowlton West, "Bill", 1960. He died in 2009. Gained special treasured daughter Julie Coombs (Reed). Inherited treasures Tom West (Ilene); Dave West (Sharon) - both deceased; and, Rebecca Arlint.
Two joined families became ‘The West Bunch.’ These sweet families brought my many treasured grandkids and great grandkids!
Graduated from East High School and attended University of Utah; loved to sing with sister, write stories, poems, paint and go on trips with family.
Served in Primary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for 25 years; served in Salt Lake Temple with Bill 12 years; served as missionary with Bill in Liberty Park Ward 2 years.
Special thanks to Brighton Hospice and care givers at Abbington Senior Living and the Morningside Branch where I made many new friends. The family also thanks the CNS Hospice team and hospital staff at St. Marks Hospital.
There will be a visitation at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary (3401 S. Highland Drive) on Friday, September 7, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the LDS Valley View Stake Center (3900 S. 2245 E.) at 11:00 am with a visitation from 9:30-10:30 am.
