In loving memory of our beloved husband and father, David E. Smith III, who returned home to his Heavenly Parents embrace September 12, 2019 at the age of 70. He led a life of love, passion for education and service to others.
Born in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 2, 1949 to Dr. David E Smith Jr. and Gwen Stillman Smith, he graduated from East High School and went on to pursue a degree at the University of Utah. Upon receiving his undergraduate degree, he went on to receive his MBA at the University of Arizona. He took a two year break to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Hawaii. He would often share stories of his time spent on the islands.
His passions included cross-country skiing, aviation, education and theater. It was during a theatrical performance that he met the love of his life, Debora Renstrom. They were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on May 23, 1983.
He is survived by his wife, Debora R. Smith, and his 3 children, David Bryan, Matthew Stillman and Lindsey. He is also survived by his three siblings Wendy Smith Dahl, Trent and Jan Jenson. He was preceded into eternity by his parents, Dr. David E. Smith Jr., and Gwen Smith.
His lifelong passions were his wife and his family, and serving the Lord. A faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, David served in numerous callings including Elder Quorum President and Executive Secretary. He touched countless lives including those of his nieces and nephews.
We love you with all our hearts and will miss you terribly until we meet again for eternity, your family.
A celebration of his life will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (2125 E. Evergreen Ave, Salt Lake City Utah 84109) September 17, 2019 at 12:00PM. He will then be laid to rest at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
