Charles Warren Metcalf, our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2016. He was born on January 1, 1921 in Smithfield, Utah to Charles Edgar Metcalf and Mabel Loreen Swenson Metcalf. After graduation from Granite High School, he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps in England, France and Germany during World War II. He married Jeanette Hill on October 26, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple and together they raised a large and caring family. A faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Warren served in a variety of Church callings, including Bishop of the Grant 6th Ward, member of the Salt Lake Temple Square Presidency, and Director of the Liberty Jail Visitor’s Center in Liberty, Missouri. He spent his career of 41 years working for Mountain Bell Telephone Company. In retirement he loved to travel, visiting 15 foreign countries and touring throughout the United States.
He is survived by his six children: C. Brent Metcalf (Jeniel), Marion B. Call (Merrell), Ruth J. Murray (Alan), Marjorie D. Metcalf, R. Warren Metcalf (Trina), and Thomas D. Metcalf (Susan). He has 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three sisters; Alice L., Betty J. and Shirley J., and two brothers; Lloyd E. and James A.
A viewing and graveside service will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, 3401 South Highland Drive, Salt Lake City, at 1:00 p.m. on April 11, 2016.
