Wally Sandack 6/26/1913 ~ 1/7/2011 Avrom Yitzhak Sandack, better known as A. Wally Sandack, died peacefully at the age of 97. One of the nation's leading labor lawyers, he was a champion of the underdog, speaking for the working man and woman with a powerful voice that was uniquely his own. He dedicated his life to the law, to social justice, and made significant differences in people's lives.In 1936, his powerful voice (along with his quick wit and spontaneity) landed him a job as a broadcast announcer for KSL radio. From 1942-1945 he served as 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, stationed in the South Pacific. In the 1950s and '60s he became a key figure in Utah politics, serving as Democratic County and State Chairman. He was instrumental in the elections of Utah Governors Calvin W. Rampton and Scott Matheson, as well as in the election of John F. Kennedy in 1960 and his brother Bobby's campaign in 1968. In 1940 he met and married his life match Helen Frank, the youngest daughter of Bertha and Arthur Frank. They were married for 70 years, and lived together in their home (and in Palm Springs, CA) until Helen's recent death on October 3, 2010. Wally is survived by his sister Maxine Rothenberg; his children Nancy, Roger (Roz), Rick, Art (Debra) and Susan (Dave); nine grandchildren; and six great-grand-children. He leaves behind a large, beautiful family who shares his dedication to life, liberty, and the pursuit of laughter and happiness.
