Richard William “Dick” Wright, 98, of Delmar passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at TidalHealth in Salisbury. Born June 23, 1924 he was the son of the late Charles M. Wright, Sr. and Blanche W. Wright.
Dick was born on the family farm where he spent his entire life. He graduated from Mardela High School and after high school got his electrical certification from Coyne Electrical School in Chicago, Illinois. After college, he worked in the shipyards in Wilmington, Delaware. Soon after, he returned home to the family farm to continue the Wright family’s farming tradition. He was a member of the Wicomico County Farm Bureau, the Chairman of the Maryland State Soil Conservation Committee, President of the Maryland Association of Soil Conservation Districts and served on the Board of Farmers Bank of Mardela Springs. He joined Snethen Chapel later Snethen United Methodist Church in 1941 and was a member of the Westside Historical Society.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Mary Evelyn Wright; daughter Cynthia Evans and her husband Phil; grandson, Mark Evans and his wife Joann; great-grandchildren, Kathleen Evans, Caroline Sekercan (Eric), Jessica Sufczynski (Christopher), and Rebecca Willoughby (Robert); and six great-great- grandchildren; brother, Edward Wright; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brother, Charles M. Wright, Jr.; sisters, Dorothy Layton, Nellie Henry, Louise Ruth, Elizabeth Horner, and Marie Ruhl.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 10am at Springhill Memory Gardens Mausoleum. A Celebration of Life will follow at 11am at Snethen United Methodist Church.
