Marie Mildred (Turner) Birckhead of Berlin, Md. formerly of Bowie, Md., and Lakeland Florida, passed away on August 22, 2016. Born June 22, 1925 in Palmyra, Maine to Manzer and Rachel (Tibbetts) Turner. Marie graduated from The Corinna Union Academy in 1943. She graduated from nursing school at the Augusta General Hospital and remained in nursing from 1946 until1965. During World War II she served in the US Cadet Corp as nursing staff. She began a career in Real Estate in 1965 until she retired in 1987. Marie was an associate broker and won many awards from the Prince Georges County Board of Realtors. She married her husband Courtney on November 26,1945. They had 6 children. They lived in Bangor, Maine moving to Bowie Md in 1963. They retired to Florida for over 25 years. Marie and Courtney were Charter members of St. Matthews United Methodist Church, founded the Belair Square Cats square dancing club, and owned and operated Triangle Acres Family Campground in Everett, Pa. She enjoyed camping, square dancing, playing cards, traveling, music and theatre. She was predeceased by her son, Jon Everett Birckhead, four sisters, Virginia Wintle, Ruth Dunham, Clara (Kelly) Ready, and Eleanor Weeks. She is survived by her husband, Courtney, 3 sons, Michael (Betty), Gregory (Michiko), David, and 2 daughters, Cindy (Rick) Jacobs, and Rachel (Joe) Kontgias, her brother Allen (Dorothy) Turner, 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Memorial Service will be held September 25th at 3pm at St. Matthews Methodist Church, 14900 Annapolis Road, Bowie, Md. 20715.
