Lewis E. “Luke” Bratten, 85, of Pittsville passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born July 7, 1939 he was the son of the late George Bratten and Marie Ellen Hudson Bratten.
Lewis retired from Berlin Adkins Company in 2005 after 46 years. Lewis was known for his craftsman-ship and attention to detail. In addition to being employed by Adkins, Lewis was self-employed as a drywall finisher. Many prominent builders utilized his services. Lewis taught his son, Gary how to walk on “stilts” at age 8. Saturdays became drywall day for the two of them. To know Lewis was to Love him. As he never has a negative attitude. Lewis was a kind-hearted man who worked hard for his family everyday up to his retirement. Lewis instilled his work ethic and life values into his children. Lewis had loved his daughter Brenda dearly; she was called his “Baby Girl”. Lewis shared many bonds with his son Kevin over the years from tinkering with vehicles in the driveway to just hanging out and chatting. Lewis had a special place for his daughter-in-law Ann who he shared many of his childhood stories with over the last four years. Lewis would give her a hard time when she bought a lot of groceries for him.
Lewis is survived by three loving children, Brenda Joseph (Ernest), Kevin Bratten (Charlotte), and Gary Bratten, (Ann); grandchildren, Connor Bratten, Deborah Franklin, Jonathan Bonneville, Korey Bratten, Marissa Bratten, Joseph Pusey, Madison Bratten and Chelsie Giannini; great-grandchildren, Jacob Bonneville, Brandon Mitchell, James Starns, Eliana Jackson, and Liam Bonneville; brothers, Billy Bratten (Linda), Walt Bratten; sister, Pearl Seaton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Cynthia “Cindy” Ann Bratten who passed in 2019, brothers, Paul Bratten and Johnny Bratten.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, August 31 from 12pm- 4pm at the family home, 7455 Maple St, Pittsville, MD 21850.
