John “Jack” Gerald Layfield, 91, passed away at Tidal Health in Salisbury on Thursday, January 11, 2024. Born in Melson, MD on March 8, 1932, he was the son of the late Ethel Hearn Layfield and John Thomas Layfield.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 – 1954 and retired from State Highway Administration (MDOT) in 1992. Jack was a member of AARP and American Legion Post #64 in Salisbury. He loved his family very much.
Survived by loving wife of 67 years, Mary Ellen Dryden Layfield; two children, Dale Robert Layfield (Debbie); Debbie Ann Laird (Robert); three grandchildren, Kelly Marie Layfield (James), Dale Robert Layfield, Jr., Caitlin Alayne Laird, two great-grandchildren, Riley Parsons and James Parsons, and several nieces and nephews.
Jack was preceded in death by brother, Louis Layfield, sisters, Catherine Perdue and Norma Hearn.
