Jean Hanson Wharton passed into glory peacefully with her husband, Roger, by her side. She had a unique way of sharing her faith, often asking, "Where do you attend church?" A lifetime member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Salisbury, Maryland, Jean cherished her time growing up there, singing in the choir, and evangelizing to others. Her faith in God never wavered. Born and raised in Salisbury, she attended Pinehurst Elementary and graduated from James M. Bennett High School in 1976. On December 10, 2005, she married Roger, the love of her life, and embraced every moment with him.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Doris Hanson; brother, John Hanson; sister, Linda, and brother-in-law, Peter Rubenstein; and aunt, Rebecca Cole. She is survived by her devoted husband, Roger Wharton; stepchildren Greg (Heather) Wharton and Shannon (Jorge Echavarria) Wharton; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Miriam Hanson; nephews, John Hanson and Chad Hanson, Jr.; niece, Laura C. Corry; cousin, Janice Dudrow; and aunt, Dixie Brady; along with countless friends and family.
A special “thank you” goes out to her church community, friends, doctors, and Coastal Hospice, who provided invaluable support during this time. A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025 at 11 AM with visitation one hour prior at Bethany Lutheran Church (817 Camden Avenue, Salisbury, MD). Following the service a continued celebration of life will be held, with lunch, in the Fellowship Hall. Jean’s life was marked by love, compassion, and devotion to her Lord. She will be dearly missed. Until we meet again in Heaven!
*In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Bethany Lutheran Church, Coastal Hospice, or a charity of choice in Jean’s memory.
