Janie Pittman Melvin, 89, of Salisbury passed away Monday, February 24, 2025, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake. Born in South Mills, NC she was the daughter of the late Donald Vance Pittman, Sr. and Irene Williams Pittman.
Janie worked for Salisbury State University for over 30 years. She volunteered at PRMC for many years and was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church. She was a loving mother, and grandmother, who adored her family. In her younger days she was very outgoing, loved going to the beach, doing crafts, and traveling when able. Vacationing in the Outer Banks and the semi-annual family reunions will always hold special memories with the family.
She is survived by her children, Charles “Chip” H. Melvin, Jr. (Maryam Afsharpour), Karen Marie Melvin, and Keith Wayne Melvin (Gina); grandchildren, Tyler Melvin and Amanda Melvin; sister Dorothy Aksteter, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Donald Vance Pittman, Jr. and Carl Pittman.
A private family service was held with interment in Wicomico Memorial Park.
