Ivan P. “Pres” Richardson, 93, of Snow Hill passed away Friday, October 20, 2023, at Tidal Health Peninsula Regional with his loving family by his side. Born in Mappsburg, Virginia; he was the son of the late George Franklin and Margaret Richardson.
Before moving to Snow Hill, Pres served 22 in the U.S. Air Force with tours of duty in Okinawa, Japan, Vietnam and nine U.S. States. After retiring, he became the Supervisor of Maintenance for the Worcester County Board of Education and retired from there after 20 years.
Pres was a kind and loving husband, Daddy, Grandpa Pres, and friend to many. While many saw his no-nonsense side, he loved to laugh, had a smile for everyone and was ready to tell a joke or pull a prank at any moment. He was well known for his attention to detail, spent many hours woodworking, cleaning his cars or grooming his yard; and, if you ask Betty, his grandchildren or great grandchildren, he was the best handyman ever.
As a member of Whatcoat United Methodist Church, over the years Pres served as Memorial Committee Chair, Council Chair, Church Finance Officer, and member of the Trustees Committee, always helping when called upon. He and Betty often joined the youth on their ASP trips.
Pres was also a member of the American Legion Post 67 and received his 60-year pin from Sinepuxent Lodge 193 this past year. He also helped Habitat for Humanity in his younger years.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Mildred “Betty” Hicks Richardson, daughters; Debra Tull of Plano, TX; and Peggy Byrd and her husband, David of Delmar, DE; grandchildren Dana Tull Modesto and her husband John, son Preston and daughter Abigail of Allen, TX; Greg Tull and his wife Lorie, son Caleb and daughter Aubrey of Westover, MD; Jodi Byrd Hollaman and her husband Brian and daughters Josie and Jordyn of Delmar, DE; Juli Byrd Bradford and her husband Mark and daughters Morgan and Maci and son Evan of Delmar, DE. and Spencer Byrd and his wife Mia of Berlin, MD. Pres was preceded in death by his one sister and four brothers.
A memorial service will be held at Whatcoat United Methodist Church, 100 W. Federal Street, Snow Hill MD on Saturday, October 28th at 3:00 with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, honorarium contributions in memory of Pres may be made to his beloved Whatcoat United Methodist Church by mail at 101 N. Washington Street, Snow Hill, MD 21863.
