Garnett Harvey Ball, 85, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at his home in Sharptown, Maryland. He resided in Sharptown for over 20 years and previously in Galesville, MD. Harvey was born on November 15, 1937 in Washington, DC and was the son of the late John Lee and Ivy Ball. He graduated in 1956 from Bladensburg HS in Prince George's County, MD.
Harvey was a PFC, serving in the 13th Infantry Battalion while in the United States Marine Corps and then served in the United States Army Special Forces, Airborne Division. He was a valued member of the West Lanham Hills VFW. Harvey worked over 30 years and retired as a Rural Mail Letter Carrier for the US Postal Service in Anne Arundel County. He is remembered as an avid Antique car enthusiast and he enjoyed working in his yard.
Harvey is survived by children, Stacy Cottingham (Jeff) of Maryland, Stephen Byington (Karen) of Kentucky, Susan Miller (Wayne) of North Carolina, David Byington(Terry) of Florida, and Dawn Byington(Linda) of Florida; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren across the country, sister Laurie Phoebus and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Norita Rudderforth Ball in 2020 and brother, John Lee Ball, sisters, Elizabeth White and Ann Cameron.
A Liturgy for Burial will be held Thursday, April 27th at 11:00am at St. Peters Episcopal Church in Salisbury, MD. Interment will be held on April 27th at 3pm at St. James Parish in Lothian, Maryland with a reception to follow at St. James fellowship hall.
