Betty Lou (Richardson) Kulp surrendered to her battle with COPD and lung cancer on Sunday July 11th, 2021. She passed away peacefully in her sleep surrounded by loved ones at the age of 79. The daughter of the late Welton Richardson and Allene Conaway, and survived by brother Don Richardson (Donna Richardson), Sidney Richardson (Kay Richardson), and sister Iris (Richardson) McCabe (Michael McCabe).
A native of the area, born and raised in Willards, she was an active member of the Salisbury Soroptimist Club, including serving as their Secretary. During her career, Betty Lou worked as an executive secretary at Wayne Dresser Industries, Peninsula Regional Medical Center (now TidalHealth), and Tri Lower Counties (TLC).
She was known for having a ready smile and an upbeat outlook, always uplifting others. In retirement, her favorite pastime was caring for her flowers and an array of birdfeeders in her backyard. Throughout her life, she loved spending time at the beach with family and friends. She enjoyed walking the boardwalk, watching and listening to the waves, and using binoculars to watch passing boats. Her adventuresome spirit led her to destinations including Cape Cod, Bar Harbor, New York City, Hawaii, Cayman Islands, Cancun, Germany, Ireland, and more.
She is survived by her daughter, Christina Westover of Stafford, VA, son Dr. W. David Kulp, III and his wife Dr. Heather Kimmel of Falls Church, VA, her companion Robert Lenhart of Salisbury, and her grandchildren Rachel and Nathan Kulp, and Jake and Lexi Westover and several other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service has been planned for Sunday, July 25, 2021 at 1pm at Bounds Funeral Home on East Main Street in Salisbury. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service. Help us celebrate Betty Lou’s memory by wearing her favorite color, red.
