Andrew Anthony Giunta, 81, of Allen passed away Monday, June 14, 2021 surrounded by his family at the Macky and Pam Stansell House of Coastal Hospice in Ocean Pines. Born June 2, 1940 in Scranton, PA he was the son of the late Catherine and Anthony Giunta.
He graduated from East Stroudsburg University in 1963 with a BS degree in education, and from Salisbury University in 1973 with a MS degree in education.
From 1963-1965 he was employed as a teacher and assistant wrestling coach by Whitehall-Coplay School District in Allentown, PA. From 1965-1983 he was employed at Wicomico High School as a teacher of social studies and as a part-time guidance counselor. At Wi-Hi he also served as assistant wrestling coach for five years and was a member of the American Field Service. From 1983 through June 2002, he was employed at Bennett Middle School as a full-time guidance counselor, and also was a certified professional counselor with the State of Maryland.
Andy was a member of the Allen Lions’ Club serving two terms as president from 1976-1977 and 1996-1997. He received the chapter’s Lion of the Year award in 2005 and was named a Lions’ Club International Melvin Jones Fellow. He was a member of the Allen Volunteer Fire Company Station 15, where he served as Captain of the Station 15 Fire Police from 2005-2010, and he was a member of the Wicomico County Fire Police Association since 1990. Andy volunteered at St. Francis de Sales Church on the school board, the collection counting team, and at The Joseph House. He was member of the Maryland Retired Teachers Association and a member of the American Counseling Association.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Judith A. Giunta; children, Anthony Giunta and his wife Rachel and their daughter Katherine; Maria von Kollmar and her husband Conrad and their children Nicholas and Drew; sister Mary A. Giunta; and extended family in Pennsylvania. He was preceded in death by an infant brother Anthony Giunta.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday at 11am at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church on Riverside Drive in Salisbury with visitation one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
