Albert Leroy Jones II passed away peacefully at home on November 20th, 2023. Born in Salisbury on October 21st, 1950, he was the son of Stanley Jones and Margaret Jones Sauerhoff of Shad Point. “A. J.” graduated from James M. Bennett Senior High School in 1968, where he had been on the varsity football team since his freshman year.
Albert’s career included his start at DuPont, then an introduction to construction with builder and developer Milford Twilley. Along the way he honed his skills with Smullen Plumbing, and served much of the Eastern Shore with a Sweetheart Bakery route, before founding Albert L. Jones Building Construction, and later, Riverside Home Builders.
Albert’s ambition was always to provide well for his family, a goal he achieved by consistently putting responsibility first. His success earned him a reputation as a physically powerful, mentally strong-willed, and always honest man. As a true Eastern Shoreman, he worked hard and then played hard. Albert loved best the time he spent on the water, boating, fishing, clamming, and anything else opportunity provided. When not on the water, A.J. could be found in his garage, tinkering on beloved older vehicles, or out combing the fields, banks, and shorelines for arrowheads and the occasional coin. When indoors, he enjoyed cheering on his favorite team, formerly known as the Redskins, and rooting for Jeff Gordon in NASCAR races. A.J.’s friends – and his dogs – could always count on good company when “Jonesy” was around. Albert treasured these times with his friends most, second only to time with family.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents Albert and Clara Jones, and Edward W. and Audrey Lea Jones; daughter, Mandy Michelle Jones; and beloved niece, Shannon Coker. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 43 years, Lola M. Jones; daughter, Kristy (Vaucour) Jarmon; son C.R. (Teresa) Jones; and grandchildren Tyler, Cory, Grace, Lilly, and Myles; and great-grandchildren Hendrix and Willow. He is also survived by his brother Hartzel “Buck” (Nora Lynn) Jones; his brother- and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Albert’s life will be held Friday, Nov. 24th, at 1:00 p.m. at Bounds Funeral Home in Salisbury, MD. Friends may visit with the family at noon, prior to the service. Interment will follow at Shad Point Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Coastal Hospice, PO Box 1733, Salisbury MD 21802. Arrangements are being handled by Bounds Funeral Home.
