Vern was born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma on February 14th, 1941. He shared his birthday with his mother, Edith Harris. When he was four years old his family moved to Colorado where he grew up, worked, and raised his family Vern spent the last ten years living in Salem, Oregon, close to his daughter.
Vern graduated from Holy Family High School in Denver, Colorado. He worked for 37 years as an airline customer service agent for Continental Airlines.
Vern was married to Patricia Ann Brown on October 6, 1962. Together they raised their daughter, Diana and son, Donald. The family enjoyed camping, hiking, and fishing together in the Rocky Mountains, especially the Zirkel Wilderness area in Colorado.
Vern and Pat were married for 61 years and in their later years enjoyed making quilts for people in need. Vern specialized in nature quilts that the children loved. Vern loved spending time with his family, helping others, and reading. Being in nature was an important part of his life and we look to the North Star for solace.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Edith and Walter Harris, and his is siblings, Dolly Long, Freida Tribble, and Stephen Harris.
Vern is survived by his wife: Pat Harris, children, and their spouses: Diana and Micheal Sohn and Donald and Gwen Harris, grandchildren: Elizabeth, Melissa, Charles, Andrew, and Patrick, great grandchildren: Ophelia, Adalyn, Dylan, Brooklyn, and Keely, and siblings: Virgil, John, George, Chris, and Barbara.
Vern requested no service. Memorial donations can be made to St. Jude’s and Wounded Warriors.
