Samuel James Lannigan was born on August 18, 2005, in Salem, Oregon to his parents Mary Hadley and Isaac Lannigan. He died on December 25, 2021, at age 16 and is deeply missed. Sam led the way as the first grandson born to both sides of the family. He won the hearts of the nurses in the labor and delivery unit with his big blue eyes and round face. The nurses said that Sam was the cutest baby they had ever seen.
Sam had a natural way with people, especially in conversing with adults and his friends. Sam enjoyed reading books, skateboarding, eating popsicles with his younger brother Deacon, and playing with his favorite cats Twix and Scout. Sam was a generous soul, affectionate with his family, sociable, persistent at challenges, and strong-willed. He was a student at McKay High School and a member of Cub Scouts for a time, where he made some very good friends. Sam tried sports like basketball and soccer and even earned his brown belt in karate.
Quiet moments in nature were a favorite of Sam’s, especially during summers at Detroit Lake. Sam’s reflective soul, easy laugh, and kind heart are missed by his grandparents, many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Sam is survived by his mother, Mary Hadley, and his brother Deacon Martin, both of Salem. Sam is preceded in death by his father, Isaac Lannigan of Salem.
Sam’s Celebration of Life is on March 4th, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Illahee Hills Country Club, 3376 Country Club Drive, in South Salem. The majority of Sam’s ashes were interred at Belcrest Memorial Park with his father’s ashes. The family finds comfort in both father and son being reunited in this way. The family reserved a portion of Sam’s ashes to also spread at Detroit Lake.
