Ruth Helen Sussman Lenard was born in New York City on February 27, 1919. Ruth spent her career as a teacher of first and second graders in Syosset, NY, while raising her two children. She continued to care for others after she and her husband Alex moved to Sun City, AZ in 1976. There, Ruth volunteered at the Kachina Elementary School and organized the 'Warm Up America' program, which donated knitted and crocheted afghans to the needy.
Ruth and Al were married for 63 years; after his death in 2006, she moved to Eugene to be closer to her daughter, Elissa, who survives her along with her son Lane, granddaughter Katherine, and great-grandson Odin.
Ruth passed away on October 2, 2012. She will be remembered by friends and family as a loving woman who lived to a great age. May she rest in peace.
