Ronald "Ronnie" Marin, known in childhood as Ronald Marinaccio and on stage as Ronnie Manne, age 83, passed away Monday, February 17th at his home. He is survived by his nephew Pete, grandnephew Graham, niece Nikki, grandniece Savanah, and by his neighborhood family and community.
Ronnie was a born entertainer and music was a part of his identify, as a performer, arranger of music, and it was woven into every part of his day. Ronnie started his musical journey at a young age in New York, where he learned quickly that musicians have to balance what they love to do with what pays the bills. This rang true throughout Ronnie's life as he became a restaurateur, owning two restaurants one in New York and the other in LA, and later when he moved to Oregon and entered into real estate. Ronnie’s musical accomplishments are too numerous to count with hundreds of arrangements, CDs and over thirty TV shows on the local station. His creativity did not stop there as he was an accomplished poet who regularly presented at poetry readings. Often Ronnie would call or come by with the gift of a poem and he often amazed new acquaintances by reciting lengthy poems by heart. Those who met Ronnie could just tell that he was a special kind of guy, the kind who remembered birthdays, gave the neighborhood kids a treat at Christmas, a man who would write a poem at the passing of a pet, or bring you a treat to cheer you up. Even though he left the east coast a long time ago, he maintained regular contact with family and friends. At 83 he was still in contact with high school friends who lived in Connecticut and it shows the dedication to maintaining relationships that Ronnie had.
Ronnie was the type of man who left an impression; he was a gentleman, he was kind, caring, he had panache, and he spoke in a way that drew in the listener. Ronnie will live on through his music and through the memories of his family and friends.
A celebration of life for Ronnie will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2020 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Howell, Edwards, Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors, 1350 Commercial Street SE, Salem, OR 97302.
