Ron passed into eternity to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 15 at the age of 95. Ron was born in Roland, Iowa and grew up in nearby McCallsburg. After completing High School in McCallsburg he tried to enlist in the Navy but was rejected because of a serious kidney infection. Due to the depression work was scarce in Iowa so Ron hitchhiked to Seattle Washington to seek employment. He held various jobs in the Seattle area between 1935 and 1948. In 1938 he nearly died from the on-going kidney infection and an operation was performed to remove the kidney.
In December of 1942 Ron accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and began attending Bellevue Baptist Church where in 1943 he met and married Audrey Schireman. In 1948 he felt the call into Christian Ministry so the family moved to Portland, Oregon where he attended Multnomah Bible Collage. After graduating Ron was the pastor of the Pleasant Home Baptist Church near Gresham Oregon for 8 years and for 4 years did evangelistic work nationally with the National Association of Evangelicals.
In 1963 Ron moved the family to Southern California where he worked in business for several years prior to becoming the Director of the Stewardship Departments for World Literature Crusade and then for World Vision International. In 1978 Ron returned to Oregon to work in the Stewardship department of the Conservative Baptist Foreign Mission Society until retirement. After retirement Ron volunteered as an associate pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Salem, Oregon until he moved to a retirement center and then an assisted living facility in the Portland, Oregon area. Ron and Audrey have six children: Keith, who preceded him in death in 1999; David; Lois; Miriam; Fredric and Joyce. They also have 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
A memorial service will held Thursday, September 22, 2 pm at Central Bible Church, 8815 NE Glisan Street, Portland. Private interment at City View Cemetery in Salem. Arrangements by Howell-Edwards-Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors.
