He received his B.A. in Literature from Linfield College and retained his love for books throughout his life, never failing to pass along a good book if the conversation called for it. Roger was a proud member of the Theta Chi fraternity, as well as the Four Corners Rod & Gun Club, where he held the #11 on the membership roll.
Roger was a sergeant with the Oregon National Guard from 1955-1964. He worked as a Human Resources manager for the State of Oregon before retiring to travel, work in his woodshop, listen to music, watch his cowboy movies, and spend time with family. He was a quiet man who gave the best head massages and never failed to speak his mind or share his wisdom and stories.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Beverly; brother, Daryl; son and daughters, Allen and Jennifer, Jennifer and Jacqueline; and eight grandchildren: Kaitlyn, Ian, Madison, Madeleine, Mitchell, Connor, Carson and Taylor. He is preceded in death by his parents Alice and John Zwemke, as well as their “other child”, their dog Sam. Roger’s family is at peace knowing that John and Sam were probably the first ones to greet Roger with fishing pole in hand when he passed.
Upon Roger’s request, close family will celebrate his life privately with a family picnic.
