Robert “Bob” R. Sticha, age 90, died peacefully surrounded by his children in Salem, Oregon on November 19, 2023. Bob is survived by his three sisters, Pat Pederson, Betty Grant and Joan Ames, his son, Jim Sticha, his daughters, Debi London (Tate) and Linda Sticha Nelson (Joel), his four grandchildren, Alyssa, Lacey (Sean Sellers), Kellen, and Ellee London, and his great grandson, Rein Sellers.
Bob was born in Clarissa, Minnesota. He graduated from Long Prairie (MN) High School in 1951. He was proud of his service in Greenland as a sergeant in the United States Air Force. Bob and the love of his life, Barbara Oswood Sticha, met at a dance. Their favorite song was the “Blue Skirt Waltz.” They were married in Minneapolis, MN in 1959, and moved to Salem in 1969, where they raised their family. Barbara passed away in 1997.
Bob spent the last 25 years of his career working as a relocation specialist with Star Transfer/United Van Lines, before retiring in 2000. He was a parishioner at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Bob’s decades-long civic involvement included serving as a Senior Ambassador for the Salem Chamber of Commerce, membership in American Legion Post 89 (Mt. Angel), and volunteer service for the Mt. Angel Octoberfest. Connecting with friends and family meant the world to him. He had a wonderful smile and sense of humor, and a positive outlook on life that he shared with others through encouraging catch phrases and one-liners. Bob also enjoyed detailing and selling cars (over 200), polka dancing, music, and country drives.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Angel. The burial and a reception will follow at Calvary Cemetery (Mt. Angel) and at St. Mary’s social hall, respectively.
