Norma Bell was born in Joseph, Utah to Ariel and Margaret Parker. She is survived by her son, Ron, and daughter Vicki Steiner, seven grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. Norma is preceded in death by her husband, Vic.
Norma and Vic met in Hawaii while working to support the efforts for World War II. They were married there on August 31, 1946. They spent the early years of their married life in Joseph, Utah and Ely, Nevada before coming to Oregon, where they eventually settled in the Salem area .
Her son, Ron, and daughter, Vicki both reside in the Salem area. Her seven grandchildren include Richie Darling of Anchorage, AK; Randy Darling of Olympia, WA; Ronda Latta of Anchorage, AK; Emily Comstock and Breyonna Caldwell, Salem, OR; Laurie King of Russellville, AR; Jenna Sullo of Long Beach, CA.
She worked many years for the City of Salem, Water Department. After retirement from the City, Norma enjoyed the regular lunches she had with her co-workers. Norma also attended and was very active with her church, Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Norma was one of ten children and was the last surviving member of her siblings. She was the only one of her siblings who left Utah, and has many nieces and nephews who still live there.
Among Norma’s favorite experiences were the years of their retirement that she and Vic lived at the Oregon Coast at Manzanita. After they returned to live in Salem, she still loved to take trips to the Coast. Other favorite activities for Norma were gardening, reading, hosting family gatherings and having her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren visit her. Norma’s family will remember her for her lively manner and the constant twinkle in her eye. She will be greatly missed by them all.
A private graveside service will be held for Norma’s family.
