Nancy was born October 6, 1941 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Jesse Cardwell and Iva Ina (Monkres) Pybas. Within the family, Nancy had the nickname of "Sis". She attended Trousdale School & Shawnee (Oklahoma) high school, where she enjoyed playing the position as guard on the Shawnee school basketball team. After graduating high school, Nancy moved to Salem, Oregon to attend Willamette University. During the summers, she worked at Blue Line Diner, which was owned by her sister and brother-in-law. This was where she met Dean F. Klarr, Jr.
Dean and Nancy's first kiss was at Waters Field, Salem's baseball team's location at the corner of Mission and 25th Street. They were later married on November 27, 1958. Dean and Nancy, and their son, Tim, moved to San Anselmo, California, where Dean completed his Bachelors degree at San Francisco Theological Seminary and became licensed to the Gospel Ministry by the Presbytery of Willamette. They then moved to Azusa, California, where Dean was appointed to the Assistant Pastor at First Presbyterian Church. This was when Nancy began her life as a Minister wife. She was very caring and had compassion for everyone. She was an excellent planner with decorating skills, helping young couples with their weddings. As time went on, she expanded to planning social events and large gatherings of family and friends. The Klarr family grew with the addition of their daughter, Patti.
Nancy served as Deacon of the Church and member of the Christian Education Board, while active in Azusa Ladies of Civitan, up to the Vice President position. She graduated in the Class of 1969 Medical Assisting at Citrus College (Glendora, California). Her two minutes of TV fame came from being a participant on the “Truth or Consequences” game show. Bob Barker used Nancy to help surprise the fiancé of a returning military service man.
In 1974, the Klarr family moved back to Salem, Oregon. Nancy began working as a medical assistant at a doctor’s office. In 1983, she became a Certified Medical Assistant by American Association of Medical Assistants, Inc. Nancy served as President of A.A.M.A Marion-Polk Chapter in Oregon. Another organization Nancy was a member of was the local P.E.O.
Nancy advanced in her employment to become a Business Office Manager, working at North Bank Surgical Center. She was later employed as Reception Manager at Salem Cardiology Clinic, which is where she retired from. She also enjoyed participating in the Social Events Committee for Paradise Island Park where Dean and Nancy retired.
She is survived by her husband, Dean F. Klarr, Jr.; her son, Timothy David (Deely F.) Klarr; her daughter, Patricia Diane Hyatt; grandchildren, Tiffany Marie Mathew, Tara Lynn Klarr, Tyler Davis Klarr, Dane Randall Hyatt, and Madison Diane Hyatt; great-grandchildren, Gwyneth "Rezi" Galvan and June Detouche Matthews; and her sister, Cleta “Scooter” Cheatwood (of Lawton, Oklahoma). Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gordon, Chuck, Bill, Bob, and Don; and sisters, Betty “Todd” Haynes and Maxine “Teen” Cupp.
Like Nancy's amazing way of growing flowers, so did her friendships with many wonderful friends and family.
