Michael was born in Hammond, Indiana on September 11, 1935 to Michael Quint and Irene (Wandel) Quint. He attended school in Hammond through his junior year, until his family moved to Fontana, California. He completed his high school education in Ontario, California at Chaffey High School graduating in 1953. In 1955, he received an AA from Chaffey College, then in 1957, he graduated from UCLA with a BS in engineering. Later, in 1976, he earned a MBA and a MA in Accountancy from the University of Central Florida, followed by a CPA certification in 1977.
After graduating from UCLA, Michael joined the Douglas Missiles Division in Santa Monica, California as an electrical engineer. In 1962, Douglas transferred him to their Vandenberg AFB facility in Lompoc, California. He experienced the Cuban missile crisis first hand. In 1965, Michael transferred to the Saturn Program through McDonnell Douglas in Huntington Beach, California. His last employment with McDonnell Douglas was a transfer to Titusville, Florida, where he worked at Kennedy Space Center and was part of the program that launched the rocket to the moon. In 1976, after completing this MBA and MA in Accountancy, he left the space program and moved his family to Salem, Oregon to complete his CPA license. He retired in 1994 from the State of Oregon Executive Department as an accounting analyst, where he worked on producing the State of Oregon Statewide Financial Reports.
Michael met his wife Isabel at the age of 16 on their first day of their senior high school year at Chaffey High School. As freshmen at Chaffey College, they became chemistry lab partners. Upon graduation, they both transferred to UCLA to complete their degrees. Michael and Isabel became engaged in their senior year and married on December 16, 1956 at the Mission Inn in Riverside, California. The Quints were able to enjoy 66 years and 8 months of wedded bliss, until his passing of congestive heart failure on August 21st, 2023.
Michael is survived by his wife Isabel, daughters Sheila Gannon of Salem, Oregon and Sharon Cook of San Diego, California, plus grandchildren Renee and Kurt Schiller of Salem, Oregon and Elizabeth and Garrett Cook of San Diego, California. He is also survived by his brother Peter and wife Paula of El Cajon, California.
He wasn't a world traveler, preferring more to just head to Lincoln City for a few days at the Ester Lee, enjoy a walk along the beach at Depoe Bay, and stopping for a bowl of clam chowder at Mo's. Michael was a devoted fan of the yearly Salem Art Fair, a lover of classical music (especially baroque), abstract art, and mid-century furniture. He was an active member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church since 1976. He sang in the very first Evensong Choir, under the direction of May Dudley, and in the main church choir for several years.
Michael was a perfectionist when it came to recordkeeping and anything that involved numbers...ever the sudoku enthusiast! He enjoyed playing chess with his grandson Kurt, a game of Scrabble with his cousin Sharon of Hammond, Indiana, and playing bridge at the South Salem Senior Center. But, most of all, he was the perfect family man. No one could ask for a better husband, father, or "Opa" to his grandchildren.
