Dear, dear Merle.  I  have many wonderful memories of you and your smile and enthusiasm.  You made Western Oregon University a better place.  I remember you and I and Jeanne Deane in meetings which eventually created Abby's House, today an invaluable resource for students in need.  You were a great chair of the Psychology Department--efficient, diplomatic, caring.  Your students loved you, faculty like me admired you.  I remember our sharing cake and tea last year and catching up.  You were so proud of your family.  You aged beautifully, a role model for the rest of us.  I will miss you, Merle.  You made the world a brighter place.
