Lucille was the daughter of Nicholas and Grace Glodt, and had 2 brothers and a sister, Lawrence, Harold and Agnes. She spent her childhood years on the farm in Gettysburg during the dust bowl era. She enjoyed riding horses and caring for cows and pigs.
On November 20, 1949, she married Neil Clinton Christensen and together they had a family of 5 children, Mary (deceased), John, Steven, Kathleen and Niki. Lucille was the blessed grandmother of 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Lucille and Neil spent the majority of their married life here in Salem, Oregon. Lucille confirmed her faith and became a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church on January 29, 1967. Neil and Lucille were active in the congregation and she supported many church functions.
Lucille was a practicing nurse for more than 45 years. She graduated as a diploma nurse from Presentation School of Nursing in Aberdeen South Dakota in 1947. She worked for the Oregon State Mental Hospital for 30 years as the charge nurse of the geriatric unit. She then worked for Salem Hospital on the medical surgical unit for the last 10 years before she retired. Lucille loved bedside nursing, caring for her patient’s and her compassion and nursing skills were evident to anyone who worked with her.
Friends and relatives that came to Lucille’s home knew her passion for gardening. She loved to work in the yard, and was a talented landscaper. She adored miniature roses, geraniums, azaleas, and daffodils. She spent hours in her flower beds and enjoyed all seasons.
Lucille loved oil painting. She was self-taught but was very talented in her ability to take a scene and turn it into a beautiful masterpiece.
A warm welcome awaited all visitors to Lucille’s home. She always served a cup of coffee and cookies. Lucille loved to share her joy of cooking, especially during the Christmas Holidays. Her sugar cookies and fudge were a staple that her entire family looked forward to each and every year.
After retirement, Lucille and Neil traveled throughout the United States and Canada on Motorcycles. She and Neil had a Gold Wing Honda motorcycle with a pop-trailer. They logged more than a hundred thousand miles traveling the country and attending various motorcycle rallies.
Lucille went to be with her Lord, on November 10, 2018 after a extended illness. She passed away surrounded by her family and is now in the hands of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
