Larry was born January 7, 1951 in Leonardtown, MD to the late Mary M. and Michael L. Joy. He grew up surrounded by love in the family home in Ridge, Maryland located along St. Jerome’s Creek on the western shore of the Chesapeake Bay. His three older siblings preceded him in death: Mary Catherine Abell (David), Shirley Kovich (John) and Joseph Joy.
Following high school graduation, Larry attended St. Mary’s College of Maryland where he earned a B.A. in Economics in 1973. In 1995 he received a Master’s of Science in Contract and Acquisition Management from Florida Institute of Technology. Larry dedicated over 40 years in service to the Federal Government as a civilian working for the United States Navy. When he retired in December of 2022, Larry was a Contracting Officer for the Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington D.C., a position for which he was highly regarded.
If you ask those who knew Larry well, they will attest to his overwhelming kindness, love of God, family, sports, potato chips and any meal with pork. He had a huge heart, was a consummate host, wonderful listener and will be profoundly missed.
Larry is survived by his loving wife Kathy E. Joy of Keizer, OR, his children Brian T. Joy (Erica) of Valley Lee, MD, Christopher M. Joy of Lexington Park, MD and Katherine R. Stocker (Benjamin) of Aurora, CO, stepchildren Kelsey L. Adkisson (Patrick) of West Richland, WA, Lindsey M. Adkisson (Michael) of Eugene, OR and Hailey A.
