After enjoying a wonderful life, Kay gained her angel wings on April 4th, 2018. She was born on February, 6th 1931 in Lincoln, Nebraska where her parents operated a neighborhood grocery store. After graduating from Lincoln High School, Kay traveled with her mother to Oregon. She first went to work as a teller at US Bank in Portland. She met and married Jerry Proctor and later moved to Eugene where they started their family. They moved to Salem in 1970 where they jointly managed two theatres, the Capitol and Elsinore. In 1972 she went back to banking at US Bank, Ladd and Bush branch. Kay was vault teller upon her retirement in 1996.
Kay loved her family, gardening, cooking, traveling, and holidays. She was a self-taught master candy maker and baker – winning County and State fair competitions. She loved decorating and making holidays memorable for her children and grandchildren. Her flowers were a point of pride and her backyard a showpiece. Kay loved experiencing New York with friends and family. You couldn’t ask for a better tour guide - she knew all the local places and Broadway shows.
Kay will be missed by her daughters, Dawneve Pierce and Mardale Dunsworth; son in law, Steve Dunsworth; grandchildren, Aubrey, Dawn (Anthony), Sabrina, Nicholas (Ashlee), and Kaytie; and great grandchildren, Brock, Faith, Scarlett, Harmony, Hayden, Glory, Lucy, and Liberty.
Memorial gestures in Kay’s honor may go to Marion Food Bank. The family will hold a Celebration of Life on Saturday, April 28th from 1:00 to 3:00 at the Community Center at Capitol Manor.
