Joanne attended school in Eugene and graduated from Springfield High in 1965. Her first job was at Williams Bakery. Joanne attended Business College in Eugene and started working at the Lane County Courthouse in 1964. A move to Minneapolis, Minnesota a year later and then to Salem, Oregon in 1969. She started working for the State of Oregon. She retired in 1999 having worked 28 years for the Children’s Services Division.
After retiring, Joanne enjoyed many interests including ushering at the Historic Elsinore Theatre in Jan 2001. Enjoyed working with theatre friends and talking to friends that attended the events. She started playing tennis in 1997 at the Courthouse. Was team Captain of a USTA team for six years. She enjoyed the long-lasting friendships and having fun while playing. She also was a member of OSWTA and played at different facilities in Salem, Portland, and Vancouver, WA. She took first place at Salishan Resort on the Coast-thanks to her talented five partners. Joanne enjoyed needlework in the 70’s and 80’s when her husband was working various shifts at the State of Oregon. Joanne and her sister enjoyed train trips to visit her nephew.
Joanne met David F. Dibble in Salem in 1971 and they were married on June 14, 1972. Many nieces and nephews were part of their family.
Since retiring in 1999, each month a group of work friends got together for breakfast at a local restaurant to visit and catch-up. She coordinated the events each year. December at Rudy’s was the time when many retirees got together.
Joanne enjoyed color-coding Excel spreadsheets- especially for tennis and the breakfast schedule. She would go to her husband’s R/C events and was the “money lady” at his sponsored Fun Flys and kept tract of Pilots scores. Part of the job for 3 years was helping at flu shot clinics in the Willamette Valley.
She was proud of heritage. Visited with family in Norway twice, and entertained her cousin and family here. Beloved T.S. for ever remember and young Barney setting new paths and memories.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 1pm at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service- 605 Commercial St SE Salem, OR 97301. A reception will follow the service.
