Born in Silverton, Oregon, after high school he joined the Marines. He fought in the Korean war. He was a Staff Sergeant, when he returned, he was based in Red Bluff, California where he met his wife, they were married in 1953. In 1955 they returned to Oregon, He was a medical technician at the Oregon State Prison and also owned Salem Saw Work out of his home. After retiring, He spent time traveling, gardening, going to auctions and remodeling areas of their home.
His wife Marilyn passed away in 2000. Survivors include sons Johnathan of Keizer, Mark of Stayton; daughters Belinda Kinsley of Salem, Sonja Reed of Neosho, Missouri, Terry Miller of Mill City and Debra Coonce of Salem; one sister, Leila Bachler of Pinon Hills, CA. He has 18 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren.
Public viewing will be held at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, Thursday, July 15th , 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Service will be held on Friday, July 16th, 10:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints 5th ward on Lone Oak St SE. Interment will be at Belcrest Memorial Park, a private service with military honors then laid to rest.
