Gerald "Jerry" George Carter

Gerald “Jerry” George Carter was born on April 3, 1939 to George and Cecelia Carter in Roosevelt Minnesota as the 3rd of what would be 5 brothers. Jerry passed away on January 7, 2024 in Salem, Oregon.

In 1955 the family moved from Minnesota to Winston, Oregon. He graduated from Douglas High School in 1957. Jerry attended Northwest Christian Collage in Eugene where he met and married Marcia Lindstrom on December 20, 1958 and settled in Eugene establishing their first home and attending Springfield Christian Church and later moved to Veneta, Oregon. During this time Jerry had preaching engagements in Glendale, Goshen, Crow and Walterville, Oregon, all the while working as a gas station attendant and auto mechanic in south Eugene. All three children, Candise, Elizabeth and Brian were born during this time.

In 1967 Jerry, Marcia and the kids moved to Estacada, OR where he was the Minister at Estacada Christian Church, worked for the school district as a custodian and drove school bus. He was even a coroner’s assistant.

1969 saw another move to Dayton, OR where he was the Minister at Dayton Christian Church. Jerry was officially ordained into ministry while living in Dayton by his home church in Winston, Oregon in 1970. He earned his Master of Ministry degree from Puget Sound College of the Bible. While ministering in Dayton, Jerry directed many camps at WI-NE-MA Christian Camp and served on the board. Also, while in Dayton, he worked for the Dayton School District as a Custodian, Groundskeeper and Bus Driver. He was also a volunteer firefighter and Chaplain for the Dayton Fire Department.

In 1981, Jerry, Marcia, Elizabeth and Brian all moved to Sweet Home, Oregon where Jerry was the Manager/Caretaker of Camp Koinonia and worked for the Sweet Home School District as a custodian, served as Elder for the Sweet Home Church of Christ at 18th and Long St. and was a member of the local Lions Club chapter.

Jerry and Marcia moved to Turner, Oregon in 1990 Where he, for the first time in his ministry career, had only one job serving as Administrator of Turner Retirement Homes. Jerry retired from Tuner Retirement Homes in 2001 but continued to Minister as an interim in several churches, also served as Minister to Seniors at Turner Christian Church, Administrator and Groundskeeper for Oregon Christian Convention, car hauler and airport shuttle driver. Jerry officially, fully retired from the ministry in 2015; although, he continued to teach and lead Bible Studies right up until his stroke in December of 2023. Additionally, Jerry and Marcia celebrated 65 years of marriage on December 20, 2023.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father George, his Mother Cecelia and his Brothers Kenneth and David. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marcia; his bothers Wendell of Safford, Arizona and Harley of Kailua, Hawaii. His children Candise Privatsky of McMinnville, Oregon. Elizabeth Mix of Meridian, Idaho. and Brian Carter of Chehalis, Washington. His grandchildren; Teresa, Steven, Ryan, Traci, Pamela and Robert. His great-grandchildren; Ashlyn, Zane, Evan, Maden, Rayleine, Carter and Archer. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service for Jerry will be held at Turner Christian Church, 7871 Marion Rd. Turner, Oregon 97392, on January 27, 2024, at 4:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Northwest Ministry Network (AKA: Oregon Christian Convention), Turner Retirement Homes or The Turner Christian Church.
